Bible Study Class What is Christian Education?

Christian education ensures an increased understanding of the Bible and the Christian faith at St. George's. This education takes place within an Anglican perspective to reading the Bible. Learning and discussing scripture is important to our interpreting contemporary issues within a Christian perspective. For a lot of modern people, there are only 2 ways to treat the Bible: you either take it literally, or you dismiss it altogether.

THERE IS ANOTHER WAY!! The way we interpret the Bible is one of the major ways in which Christians differ from each other. Yet the Bible is the cornerstone of our faith. Is there a typically Anglican way of reading the Bible? How can we take the Bible seriously at the same time as we struggle with contemporary issues in society and our lives.

St. George’s Christian Education program explores these issues through in-house training sessions, video sessions, and guest experts.

Father John Wilton Who teaches Christian Education?

Christian Education classes are facilitated by Fr. John Wilton and others. John has been Priest at St. George’s since October 1996, following ministries in Brampton, Ont. and St. James’ Cathedral in downtown Toronto following his ordination in 1987. Before entering the priesthood, John was a high school teacher and a counsellor and manager with the federal government. He and his wife Diane have two grown children and a grandson, Kieran, who occasionally attends St. George’s with them. John’s particular interests in ministry include adult Christian education, parish development, and outreach. Father John Wilton His commitment is to offer excellent pastoral care, inspiring worship and leadership which is shared with a wide variety of lay people in the parish. John enjoys talking with parishioners (and anyone who is interested) about a modern understanding of the Christian faith rooted in the traditions of the Anglican Church. In his spare time, John enjoys reading English murder mysteries, travel, and anything having to do with civil aviation. .
